Women’s Tennis Travels to Cedar Falls for UNI Invitational

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Illinois State women's tennis team will head to Cedar Falls this weekend to compete at the University of Northern Iowa Invitational.  The second tournament of the Redbirds' season will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26 and continue through Sunday, Sept. 28.

"We are excited to be back competing after two weeks at home," head coach Maja Kovacek said. "The Panther Invite is a great chance for us to get more matches and compete against two teams from our conference. It will be great preparation for the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championship coming up in two weeks."

Included among the tournament field are MVC competitors Northern Iowa and Bradley and non-conference opponents South Dakota, Upper Iowa, Western Illinois and St. Catherine.

Last year at the UNI Invitational, the Redbirds won three consultation matches and brought home two titles in singles play.  Junior Kadi Ilves went undefeated in the Panthers' singles final against Iowa State, earning the single champion title.

Following the UNI Invitational, the Redbirds will prepare for the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships and conclude their fall season at the ITA Midwest Regional.
