NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State soccer team is in the midst of a two-game Missouri Valley Conference winning streak and looks to extend the streak Saturday at Missouri State.
The Redbirds are coming off of a 2-0 win at Northern Iowa Oct. 10. The shutout was the first MVC shutout of the season for the Redbirds and the win pushed them into a tie for second place in the conference standings.
After dropping the conference opener to Drake, ISU bounced back with a win over Loyola before defeating Northern Iowa. Missouri State and Illinois State are currently tied at 2-1 in the MVC standings, while Drake leads the conference at 3-0.
ISU is led by Lauren Koehl. Koehl has a team-high five goals this season and has netted three goals in conference play. Ali Farkos leads the team in assists with four and is ranked in the top ten in points within the MVC.
Defensive back Abby Van Deventer was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance last week. It was the second-straight week, and third time this year, that Van Deventer earned the award.
Kickoff Saturday is set for 6 p.m. at Allison Field in Springfield, Missouri.
Series History
This is the 31st all-time meeting between Illinois State and Missouri State. ISU holds a 16-6-8 advantage and has won the last five games. Last season, the Redbirds won 2-0 in Normal and then won 6-2 in the MVC Tournament. ISU has not lost at Missouri State since 2011.
