LINCOLN, Neb. – The Illinois State women's tennis team fell, 7-0, to Wyoming while competing in Nebraska Saturday morning at the Lincoln Racquet Club.
In singles play, Wyoming claimed victory in all six flights. Junior Kadi Ilves fell to Wyoming's Magdalena Stencel, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 1 singles. Meanwhile, in No. 2 singles, freshman Donna Haycock suffered a defeat by Wyoming's Nastya Tokareva, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Catherine Shulman lost to Wyoming's Dorottya Jonas, 6-4, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, while freshman Valerija Gercar fell short to Wyoming's Silviya Zhelyazkova, 6-3, 6-1 in No. 4 singles. Likewise, in No. 5 singles, sophomore Chanel Scudiero was topped by Wyoming's Jessica Parizher, 6-3, 6-0, while sophomore Natalia Parchowska fell to Wyoming's Christa Gecheva, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Ilves and Haycock lost to Wyoming's Parizher/Stencel, 6-1. Similarly, in No. 2 doubles, Scudiero and Shulman were defeated by Wyoming's Alma Espinosa and Gecheva, 6-3, while the duo of Gercar and Parchowska fell to Jonas and Zhelyazkova, 6-1, in No. 3 doubles.
The Redbirds will be back in action Sunday, battling against Nebraska at the Lincoln Racquet Club in Lincoln, Nebraska, beginning at 11 a.m. CT.
