SEATTLE, Wash. – In the final match on its west coast trip, the Illinois State men's tennis team continued its winning ways by recording its second-straight victory Tuesday afternoon with a 7-0 win over the Seattle Redhawks.
"I am super happy with the way we finished the trip," said head coach Mark Klysner. "We had more injuries to deal with today, but the guys stepped up and closed out Seattle University."
The Redbirds (6-7, MVC 0-1) won the doubles point to begin the day. Led by juniors Jakub Eisner and Rolando Torrellas, Illinois State defeated the Redhawks' Riley Newman and Tanner Berkabile, 7-6. Sophomore Dylan Steffens and freshman Christoffer Greve secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win over SU's Matt Alderson and Ian Clare.
Illinois State also dominated singles play Tuesday afternoon, with Eisner, Torrellas, and seniors Jacob Wilson and Muddappa Appanervanda all notching victories. Steffens and Greve also beat their respective singles opponents to close out the match.
"Now, we have a couple of days off before heading home," said Klysner. "I'm sure the guys will enjoy Seattle and a break form tennis."
The Redbirds do not play again until Saturday, March 21 when they are scheduled to take on Ball State at 1 p.m. CST. The match will be played at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, Illinois.
