MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The Illinois State women's tennis team suffered a defeat to Marquette, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon.
The duo of junior Kadi Ilves and freshman Donna Haycock defeated MU's Erin Gebes and Ana Pimienta, 6-3, leading the Redbirds with the only win in No. 1 doubles play. Meanwhile, In No. 2 doubles, sophomore Chanel Scudiero and freshman Catherine Shulman fell to MU's Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner, 6-2, while sophomore Natalia Parchowska and freshman Valerija Gercar competed against MU's Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez, before the No. 3 doubles match was eventually forfeited.
Despite falling in all six flights of singles play, Ilves forced a third-set tie-breaker before eventually suffering a loss to MU's Pimienta, 3-6, 6-4, 12-10 in No. 1 singles. Meanwhile, Haycock lost to MU's Gebes, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 2 singles, while Scudiero fell to MU's Tokar, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 3 singles. Likewise, Shulman lost to MU's Dawson, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 4 singles, while Parchowska was defeated by MU's Sanchez, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 5 singles. In No. 6 singles, Gercar's set ended in forfeit versus MU's Foltinger.
Next up, the Redbirds will host UIC Friday, March 20, at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, Illinois. The competition is set to begin at 1 p.m.
