Cooper Named Valley Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS – Illinois State women's golfer Brianna Cooper was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office. This is Cooper's third time receiving the accolade, and her second time earning the award this season. Cooper also received the honor during her sophomore campaign.

Cooper earned the honor after leading ISU to a tie for 18th place in the Kiawah Island Invitational with a team score of 936 (312-309-315).

After the first round of competition Sunday, Cooper was tied for 21st place on the individual leaderboard with a 3-over-par 75. She then improved during the second round of competition Monday, when she fired three birdies, carding a 1-over-par 73 and tied for 15th place. During the final round Tuesday, Cooper shot an 8-over-par 80 to finish out the invitational with a three-round score of 228.

At the end of the tournament, College of Charleston finished in first place with a team score of 886 (300-288-298), North Florida wasn't far behind in second place with a team score of 891 (297-304-290). Stetson rounded out the top three with a team score of 897 (304-298-295). The women's golf team competed well, considering the rainy weather conditions and the Kiawah Island Invitational is the largest collegiate golf tournament, consisting of 40 teams.

Cooper and the Redbirds will be back in action on March 13-15 in Rio Verde, Arizona, for the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational.
