WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Behind an opening day in which sophomore Elise Fennell started her defense of the tournament medalist honors, as she carded a four-over 148, with the Redbirds closing the first of two days in 13th place at the Boilermaker Spring Classic.
The Redbirds had rounds of 316 and 304, as the team's 620 is in 13th place in the field through the first 36 holes. Tournament host and 48th-ranked Purdue and Illinois are tied atop the team leaderboard with a 582. USF (590), Minnesota (600), and Denver (602) round out the top five in the field. ISU is also chasing Cincinnati (603), Princeton (604), South Dakota State (606), Chattanooga (610), Wisconsin (610), Findlay (615), and Bradley (619), while closing the first day ahead of Northern Illinois (623), Butler (633), and Purdue Fort Wayne (639).
Fennell's rounds of 76 and 73 have her with 148, tied for the 13th-best score in the field through 36 holes. Over her first day, she had seven birdies, including a stretch of four birdies over a five-hole span in the first round, along with 18 pars.
Reagan Kennedy had rounds of 79 and 75 for 154, and is tied for 45th in the tournament field, as she had four birdies and 20 pars. Alex Sparrow had matching rounds of 79, finishing the 36 holes with 158, tied for 63rd, using 24 pars along her opening day.
Senior Dani Grace Schrock had four birdies on the day, as she had rounds of 83 and 77 for a 16-over 160, which is tied for 71st. Reagan Braker had rounds of 88 and 86, which put her in 94th place after the opening day. She had two birdies – both on the par-four 18th hole, along with seven pars.
The Redbirds – along with Northern Illinois, Butler, and Purdue Fort Wayne – tee off tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
