OMAHA, Neb. – The ISU men's tennis team earned a 5-2 over Creighton Friday night, extending ISU's undefeated streak to 3-0, marking the Redbirds' best start to the spring dual season since 2010-11.
"I couldn't be more proud right now of how we fought tonight," said head coach Mark Klysner. "We started very slow in doubles, and I know the guys definitely felt like they had a slow start. To come back in singles after being down on a lot of courts and pulling out the win was huge for us going into tomorrow."
Illinois State fell behind, 1-0 early after dropping the doubles point despite a win from the duo of Christoffer Greve and Dylan Steffens over the team of Nick Thompson and Aaron Chalstrom of Creighton, 6-3.
Greve and Steffens continued this attack in singles play as they earned back-to-back points for Illinois State. Steffens was first to finish singles competition, beating Creighton's John Glazer, 6-2, 6-4. Greve followed suit, defeating Brooks Kendal of Creighton, 6-3, 6-1.
Urh Krajnc Domiter obtained the third singles point after defeating Creighton's Alex Koca, 7-5, 7-5. The next Redbird singles point was won in a close matchup between Jakub Eisner and Quinn Dippel of Creighton, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3. The last ISU singles victory came from Andreas Boers who went against Creighton's Chalstorm, 6-7, 7-5, 6-2.
Now 3-0, the Redbirds will continue play in Omaha, versus Omaha Nebraska, Saturday at 6 p.m.
