NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team will look to build on a win over last year's Missouri Valley Conference champion when it heads to Indiana State for a Missouri Valley Conference tilt Sunday in Terre Haute, Indiana. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. CT at the Hulman Center.
The Redbirds (3-10, 1-1 MVC) will play their first conference game on the road Sunday after hosting a pair of league contests last weekend on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena. The Redbirds suffered a 71-53 loss to Missouri State in both teams' league opener on Jan. 1, but bounced back with a 70-49 victory over 2014-15 MVC regular-season and tournament champion Wichita State on Jan. 3.
Katrina Beck scored a career-high 17 points for Illinois State in the win over the Shockers, while Viria Livingston and Octavia Crump added 15 and 16 points, respectively. Crump posted team-high totals of six rebounds and five steals, and Taylor Stewart dished out a career-high six assists.
Illinois State is one of four teams tied for fourth place in the Valley with a 1-1 league record. Indiana State (5-8, 1-1) is in the same position in the conference standings after posting the same results the Redbirds did last weekend. The Sycamores scored a 59-33 home win over Wichita State on Jan. 1, before a 59-51 setback to Missouri State on Jan. 3.
Illinois State owns a 47-40 edge in the all-time series against Indiana State, although the Sycamores have a 21-16 advantage in games played in Terre Haute. Indiana State won both meetings against the Redbirds last season, including a 74-65 triumph at the Hulman Center on Feb. 13, 2015.
The game at Indiana State will be Illinois State's only competition until the Redbirds return to the road next weekend, with games at Northern Iowa and Drake, on Jan. 15 and 17.
