NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State football team punched its ticket to the 2016 FCS playoffs and head coach Brock Spack will talk about the excitement surrounding his team at a playoff edition of The Brock Spack Show, which will air LIVE on WJBC AM 1230 from the Hancock Stadium Club Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m.
The event is open to the public, with doors opening at 5 p.m. at Hancock Stadium. Jumbo hot dogs, chicken tenders, pulled pork sandwiches and Italian sausages will be available to order, and a cash bar will be provided. Parking in lots adjacent to the stadium will be free of charge.
The third-consecutive trip to the FCS playoffs is unprecedented for Illinois State (6-5, 4-4 MVFC), which won four of its last five games overall. A FBS win over in-state foe Northwestern and key wins down the stretch against No. 8 national seed South Dakota State and nationally-ranked Western Illinois helped put the Redbirds over the top for one of the final at-large berths. Overall, this will be the seventh trip to the FCS playoffs for the Redbirds.
Central Arkansas (9-2, 8-1 Southland) had an eight-game win streak snapped last weekend, as undefeated Sam Houston State cruised to a 59-23 victory over the Bears to win the outright conference championship. The nine regular-season victories are the most for the Bears since 2012, when UCA made its last playoff appearance.
Spack will talk with co-hosts Dick Luedke and Ted Schmitz about his team's preparation for Saturday's game at Central Arkansas, and he will welcome senior center Mark Spelman as this week's player guest. The 2015 All-Missouri Valley Conference First-Team selection at center has had a stellar senior campaign, starting all 11 games for the Redbirds and helping the team advance to the FCS playoffs for third time in his career.
