NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team will welcome Indiana State to Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena Friday at 7 p.m. for the team's annual Play 4Kay game.
Illinois State (5-15, 3-6 MVC) enters the game after splitting a pair of Missouri Valley Conference road contests last weekend. Colleene Smith's career-high 20 points and Shakeela Fowler's 15 points and career-high eight assists propelled Illinois State to a 64-57 win at Evansville on Jan. 29, marking Illinois State's first road win of the season. The Redbirds were unable to duplicate the feat two days later, however, as they fell at Southern Illinois, 76-71, despite Fowler leading four Redbirds scoring in double figures, with 15 points.
Fowler was recognized for her weekend performances as the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Indiana State (9-11, 5-4) enters Friday's game after securing the same results as Illinois State last weekend, with a 76-64 loss at Southern Illinois on Jan. 29 and a 59-44 win at Evansville on Jan. 31.
The Sycamores are led by senior guard Cierra Ceazer, who is averaging a team-high 13.4 points per game.
Illinois State owns a 47-41 edge in the all-time series against Indiana State, and a 29-17 mark in games played in Normal, but Indiana State earned a 63-56 win over the Redbirds on Jan. 10 in Terre Haute, Indiana, and has won three straight overall against Illinois State.
