NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team will host Purdue in its annual "Stuff the Duff" game Tuesday night against Purdue. First pitch at Duffy Bass Field is set for 6 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to help the Redbirds break a Duffy Bass Field attendance record. Admission is free to all fans.
Several promotions will be offered at Tuesday's game. The first 300 students in attendance will receive a trucker hat. DP Dough will be handing out free calzones during the game and hot dogs will be available at the concession stand for $1. Alamo II will be selling merchandise on the concourse and students will be able to renew their Red Alert passes with a chance to win tickets to Beyoncé, Country Thunder or a Chicago Cubs game.
Illinois State (11-27) returns to action after taking the series finale against Southern Illinois Sunday at Duffy Bass Field. Jacob Hendren pitched seven shutout innings before giving way to Jake Sale and Jack Landwehr, who tossed one scoreless inning each. Owen Miller provided the biggest hit of the day, a run-scoring single in the sixth inning, to help propel the Redbirds to a 1-0 win.
Purdue (7-30) enters Tuesday's contest after taking one of three games at Maryland over the weekend. The Boilermakers are led offensively by outfielder Kyle Johnson (.322/.395/.523), who tops the team in hits (48) and doubles (10). First baseman Kyle Wood has swatted a team-high 10 home runs.
Illinois State's Mitch Vogrin (0-3, 4.79 ERA) will make his first-career start Tuesday, as the Redbirds have planned a staff day against the Boilermakers.
Purdue owns a slight edge against Illinois State in the all-time series between the two teams. The Boilermakers are 18-14 in a series dating back to 1946, and won last year's meeting, 9-6, at Purdue's Alexander Field, on April 28, 2015.
