RESULTS
NORMAL, Ill.  – The Illinois State women's tennis team (11-8), went undefeated in doubles and tallied five singles victories in straight sets to come out on top, 6-1 over Missouri Valley Conference opponent Evansville (7-13) Saturday at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
The Redbirds began doubles action on a high note notching victories in No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles against the Purple Aces. Marcia Tere-Apisah and Veronika Golanova led ISU to its first doubles victory of the afternoon with a quick, 6-1 victory over Marine Darzyan and Doreen Crasta of Evansville. The victory marked the duo's 10th win as a No. 1 doubles team. Kadi Ilves and Sarah Paulson finished shortly after Tere-Apisah and Golanova with a, 6-4 victory against Evansville's Kennedy Craig and Katie Delgado. To round out doubles action, Chanel Scudiero and Catherine Shulman teamed up to capture a, 6-3 win versus Marina Moreno and Andjela Brguljan of Evansville. Â
Heading into singles with the advantage, Tere-Apisah led the Redbirds to their first victory of the afternoon with a, 6-2, 6-2 win over Delgado in No. 2 singles. From there, Scudiero defeated Crasta, 6-4, 6-3 in No. 5 singles. Shortly after, Ilves triumphed over Moreno, 6-3, 6-3 in No. 3 singles to clinch the victory for ISU. Capturing her 12th singles victory of the spring season, Golanova pushed past Brguljan in No. 1 singles to come out on top, 7-5, 6-1. To cap off singles play, Shulman bested Darzyan, 6-1, 6-3 to earn the fifth and final singles victory for ISU.  Â
The win over Evansville helped ISU improve to 2-1 in MVC play and 8-2 at home.Â
The Redbirds return to the courts next weekend for their final two home matches of the season. Friday (April 15) ISU will host No. 22 Wichita State at 10 a.m., and Saturday (April 16) is senior day as ISU hosts Missouri State at 1 p.m. Both matches are set to be played outdoors at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, Illinois, and admission is free.
