ST. LOUIS – Illinois State senior Sarah Paulson is the league's women's tennis recipient of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor Award, commissioner Doug Elgin announced Friday.
A 2016 MVC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention selection, Paulson owns a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in elementary education. She is also a two-time recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award (2013, 2015), and Paulson earned spots on the MVC Honor Roll (2013, 2015) and the AFNI Honor Roll (2013, 2015).
Paulson's community service contributions have included: SAAC Committee Representative (2015, 2016), Recess Buddies, Blair House Senior Living Facility, Sheridan Parade, Oakdale Elementary Family Night, Glenn Elementary Fall Festival, Glenn Elementary Pen Pals and Festival of Trees.
A Libertyville, Illinois, native, Paulson earned an overall singles record of 1-0 in 2015-16. She also amassed an overall doubles record of 12-13 and a spring doubles record of 10-9.
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition.
The Valley recognizes 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
