Final Results
RIO VERDE, Ariz. - The Illinois State women's golf team concluded Western Michigan's Rio Verde Invitational Sunday in 15th place, after shooting a 303 in the final round to finish with a 922 (317-302-303) at the par-72, 6,215-yard White Wing Golf Course.
Eastern Michigan rallied to win the 19-team field with a three-round total of 889 (300-297-292), four strokes ahead of second-place Northern Illinois.
Junior Kiley Walsh finished with the lowest three-round score for the Redbirds, after carding a 1-over-par 73 in the final round, for a total score of 227 (78-76-73), placing her in a tie for 29th place on the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Caitlin Sims produced a three-round score of 232 (83-71-78), as she shot a 78 in the final round.
Senior Renee Solberg finished the tournament with her lowest round, shooting a 2-over-par 74 to finish with a 235 (78-83-84). Freshman Paige Seiser also shot a three-round total of 235 (78-75-82), while junior Abby Luchtenburg finished with a total score of 244 (86-80-78). Senior Maggie Ambrose competed as an individual and finished with a 248 (82-82-82).
"Great rounds by Kiley (Walsh) and Renee (Solberg) led us today," head coach Darby Sligh said. "It was nice to follow up a solid round from yesterday, and it feels like we are finally building some momentum. We have to keep putting in the effort, and I think we will see this team surprise a few people in April."
The Redbirds return to action March 13-14 when they travel to Farmer's Branch, Texas, to compete in the Bradley Spring Break Invitational at Brookhaven Country Club.
