NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's golfer Christian Crabill claimed the I-74 Challenge Saturday, which was a 20-player tournament at the par-71, 6,915-yard Weibring Golf Club that featured members of the men's golf teams from Illinois State and Bradley.
Crabill shot a 2-over-par 144 (73-71), one stroke ahead junior Zach Burry, and two strokes ahead of freshman Trey Tussey, who finished in a tie for third place. Crabill was in a tie for fourth place after the first 18 holes, before shooting an even-par 71 in the second and final round to claim the title.
Burry was in a tie for second place at the end of the first round with a 1-over-par 72, before carding a 2-over par 73, finishing with a 3-over-par 145. Tussey shot a 3-over-par 74 and a 1-over-par 72 to finish with a 4-over-par 146.
Senior Austin Havens produced the Redbirds' fourth lowest score, as he shot a 6-over-par 148 (72-76), while freshman David Perkins and sophomore Trent Wallace finished one stroke behind with 7-over-par 149s. Perkins shot a 74 and a 75, while Wallace started with a 79 but bounced back in a big way with the lowest round of the event, firing a 1-under-par 70 over the final 18 holes.
Rounding out the scores for Illinois State was junior Jason Marrs (76+76=152) and senior Kyle Meihofer (79+78=157).
The Redbirds return to action April 1-2 at Indiana's Hoosier Invitational at the Indiana University Golf Course.
