ST. LOUIS – For the second week in a row, Illinois State's Kierston Farley-Sepe has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, while teammate Caroline Lecoeur was named the conference's Diver of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Farley-Sepe had a victorious return to the water over the weekend in a double dual against Southern Illinois and Illinois. Farley-Sepe aided the Redbird relay team in taking second place in the 200-yard medley relay team, as she swam a season-best split of 24.91, for a final relay time of 1:47.80. Farley-Sepe also captured two first-place individual titles in the 200-yard fly (2:04.71) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.83). For her final event of the meet, Farley-Sepe swam the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:33.97, taking third place out of 11 athletes.
"We are very excited to have Kierston selected again as swimmer of the week," said head swimming coach Scott Cameron. "She continues to compete well, all while swimming some tough events for us. We are very proud of her and we are excited to see her continue to get better throughout the season."Â
On the diving board, Lecoeur turned in a score of 239.05 in the 1-meter diving event out of 15 athletes, placing fifth overall for the event. Leceour's next event was the 3-meter diving event, where she placed fifth out of 12 athletes with a score of 242.60. Her performances were the top scores among all Redbirds that competed in diving events.
"With as deep and as strong as the MVC is, any time a student-athlete is recognized it is a great honor," said head diving coach Phil Hoffmann. "She has shown great work ethic since arriving at Illinois State and that hard work is beginning to pay off! I am looking for her to continue to improve each week."
Illinois State returns to the pool, and Bloomington-Normal area, next weekend, when it takes on Lewis and cross-town opponent Illinois Wesleyan. The double dual is set for Friday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. at Fort Natatorium.
