Wallace Named MVC Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Ill. – After competing with nationally ranked golfers, and tying for second place at the Little Rock Invitational, Illinois State senior Trent Wallace has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week.

Wallace's final score of three-under par (213) was tied for the second best score in the tournament by three strokes. He helped lead the Redbirds to a third place overall finish out of the 17 schools at the tournament.

Wallace started off the tournament strong, shooting two-under par in the first two rounds of competition. In the final round, Wallace shot one-over par (73) and finished the tournament tied with Arkansas State's Matthew Cole, and behind only one player – UNLV's Harry Hall who is individually ranked 53rd in the country. Among those to finish behind Wallace – who is now ranked 203rd individual – includes golfers there were ranked inside of the top-100 at 29, 69, 90, and 91.

In the fall season alone, the Redbirds have racked up three separate MVC Player of the Week honors and two in a row. Wallace joins teammates David Perkins – who won the honor after the first weekend of the season – and Joel Durnford – who won the award last week. The honor is Wallace's seventh of his career, which is the second-most among Redbird golfers, and tied for the 11th-highest career total in MVC history. In Illinois State history, only Matt Miller's nine career Golfer of the Week honors are higher.

The squad returns to action on January 26 with the Tinervin Cup, a one-on-one exhibition with Redbird alumni versus Illinois and their alumni. Their first official tournament of the spring season falls on Feb. 11-12 at the Mobile Intercollegiate, hosted by South Alabama.
