Redbird Trio Guides ISU to Home Opening Victory

NORMAL, Ill. – Simone Goods, Mary Crompton and TeTe Maggett each scored in double digits in Wednesday's 67-55 win over North Dakota.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Redbird defense opened the game strong, forcing a Fighting Hawks turnover on a shot clock violation on the opening possession. Maggett fed off the Redbird Arena energy and put two points on the board to help the Redbirds take the first lead. Illinois State remained resilient and went on an 11-0 run during the period, opening a 13-3 lead. The team would finish the quarter leading 18-11.

The 'Birds opened the second quarter with four quick points, but the Hawks answered with a 7-0 run. Goods snapped the run by making six consecutive free throws over the next 40 plus seconds. The Redbirds remained consistent throughout the half and entered the locker room ahead 38-28.

The Fighting Hawks battled back in the third and outscored the 'Birds 17-14, but could only get within three. The UND run was stopped as Maggett found her way to the rim starting off a quarter-ending 4-0 run.

North Dakota's Bailey Strand hit a jumper with 9:26 on the clock to tighten the gap to start the fourth quarter. Maggett, Crompton and Goods each responded with two points each to give ISU a comfortable 11-point lead. The Redbirds led by at least nine to end the game and cruised to their first win of the 2018-19 season.
