ST. LOUIS – After helping the Redbirds to wins over Austin Peay and Northern Kentucky, Illinois State women's basketball senior Simone Goods and junior TeTe Maggett have swept the MVC Weekly honors, announced the league Monday.
Goods was named the Valley Player of the Week after tallying 41 points and 18 rebounds en route to leading the 'Birds to two-straight wins. In Tuesday's 61-49 victory over Austin Peay, Goods captured her seventh career double-double, notching 22 points and grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds. She also went 10-for-11 from the charity stripe and shot 50 percent from the field. Goods was just as impressive in Friday's 58-53 win over Northern Kentucky, scoring 19 points in only 18 minutes of play.
Maggett, who was deemed the MVC Newcomer of the Week, received the first weekly honor of her career after guiding the Redbirds to a 2-0 record over the course of the past week. Maggett has scored in double figures in all but two contests this season, averaging 13.5 points per game. She has showed her versatility, dishing out seven assists, corralling 10 rebounds, and shooting 81 percent from the free-throw line between Illinois State's two wins over Austin Peay and Northern Kentucky.
The Illinois State women's basketball team will be back in action on Sunday when they return to Doug Collins Court to host Maryville. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
