ST. LOUIS – After helping the Redbirds to their fifth-straight victory, junior TeTe Maggett was named as the MVC Newcomer of the Week, announced the league Wednesday.
Maggett garnered her second weekly honor this season after her stellar performance in the 72-67 win over Saint Louis on Thursday. The junior guard added 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Maggett ignited the squad at halftime after sinking a half-court shot at the buzzer to propel the Redbirds ahead 39-38. The last-second shot also made an appearance on ESPN's Sports Center Top 10 list in two episodes, landing at No. 4 and No. 3.
Maggett has scored in double figures in all but two contests this season, averaging 14.2 points per game. This past week, she shot 41 percent from the floor, netting 7-for-17 and was perfect at the charity stripe.
The Illinois State women's basketball team will be back in action on Sunday when they return head to Kansas City, Missouri, to face UMKC. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
