Redbird Track & Field Cracks Top-10 in USTFCCCA Regional Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – After recording 9 ISU all-time top-10 performances and 20 individual-event wins in a sweep of this weekend's Redbird Invitational, the Illinois State men's and women's track and field teams have cracked the top-10 of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Rankings.

The Redbird men are currently ranked eighth in the Midwest Region, while the women sit just behind in ninth. Both the ISU men's and women's squads moved up three spots from last week, having previously been ranked No. 11 and No. 12, respectively.

The Illinois State men and women both posted convincing victories on their home turf Saturday. The men tallied 265 points to best second-place SIU Edwardsville (137 points) by 128 points. The women recorded an even larger margin of victory, capturing 334 points to beat second-place Dayton (138 points) by 196 points.

The 'Birds men's and women's squads, along with the No. 14 Southern Illinois women, are the only teams in the Valley to be ranked in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings.

The Redbirds will look to climb the ranks even more when they travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, to compete in the Virginia Challenge on April 20-21, 2018.
