NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team claimed their second Missouri Valley Conference Victory this season against Missouri State, 4-3.
One doubles team Veronika Golanova and Jelena Karla Vujicic defeated their opponents E. Burger and A. Darter, 6-2. Clinching the doubles point for the Redbirds was the two doubles tandem of Jana Kustkova and Laura Fitzgerald, defeating A. Torrico-Moreno and P. Boeschen, 6-2. Doubles duo Valerija Gercar and Estelle Vanthier defeated F. Khamissi and A. Meyer, 6-4 giving ISU their third doubles win of the match.
At one singles Golanova defeated A. Darter, 6-4, 6-3. Vujicic fell short to A. Torrico-Moreno, 6-1, 6-2 in the two singles position. Kustkova fought hard for three doubles against P. Boeschen, defeating her opponent, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
Senior Gercar was defeated by F. Khamissi in a three-set match in the four singles spot, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. At five singles Vanthier fell short to E. Burger 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Giving the Redbirds their fourth and final victory was newcomer Fitzgerald in the six singles spot, defeating A. Belote, 6-2, 6-0.
The Redbirds return to play on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m., for their first away MVC match up against Drake.
