Redbirds in the Pros: Owen Miller Continues to Standout

NORMAL, Ill. – The Tri-City Dust Devils shortstop Owen Miller continues to do what he did best at Illinois State – standout.

Miller went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run in a 5-1 win versus the Everett AquaSox, the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Seattle Mariners on July 9. Miller was named the Northwest League player of the night. A few days earlier on July 5, he once again went 3-for-3 at the plate.

In 24 games, Miller is hitting .344/.379/.476 with 33 hits which include four doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBIs, 13 runs and three stolen bases. His batting average and stolen bases lead the team. Meanwhile, his 33 hits are tied for the Northwest League, and his batting average is sixth.

Miller was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Midwest Region First Team and Third Team All-American. Miller led the Redbirds by batting .384 during the season, while also stealing a team-high eight bases. He was second on the team in runs (45), and had 15 doubles, six home runs, 35 RBI's, and a slugging percentage of .537. His 88 hits on the season set the single-season school record. He was drafted in the third round of the MLB draft, taken with the 84th pick by the San Diego Padres earlier this year.

Brock Stewart | Triple-A | Oklahoma City Dodgers (Los Angeles Dodgers)

  • Currently 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA starting in nine games spanning 39.0 innings.
  • Went four innings, giving up seven hits, three runs, striking out four and walking two in a loss to the Round Rock Express, the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers on July 6.

Ryan Court | Triple-A | Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs)

  • Batting .230/.309/.369 with 10 doubles, seven home runs, 32 RBIs and 25 runs in 64 games in the Pacific Coast League.
  • Went 1-for-4 with a double on the road against the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics on July 8.

Jeremy Rhoades | Triple-A | Salt Lake Bees (Los Angeles Angels)

  • Owns a 6-3 record with one save posting a 3.66 ERA in 32 appearances spanning 51.2 innings.
  • Pitched one inning of relief giving up five hits, three runs and a strikeout versus El Paso Chihuahuas, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres on July 8.

Eric Aguilera | Triple-A, Mexican League | Algodoneros Union Laguna

  • Batting .240/.231/.400 with one double, one home run, eight RBIs and two runs in six games.
  • Went 1-for-4 with a double and a RBI at Sultanes de Monterrey on July 8.

Will Headean | Class A | Fort Wayne TinCaps (San Diego Padres)

  • Currently on the seven-day disabled list.

Ryan Koziol | Class A | Augusta GreenJackets (San Francisco Giants)

  • Appeared in 15 games with a 0-0 record and a 2.55 ERA spanning 24.2 innings.
  • Hasn't played since July 3. Currently on the seven-day disabled list.

  • Appeared in six games with a run, four walks, and an on-base percentage of .267.
  • Went 0-for-2 with two walks and a run versus the Burlington Royals, the Rookie-level affiliate of the Kansas City Royals on July 5.

Jack Landwehr | Frontier League | Normal CornBelters

  • Appeared in eight games with seven starts with a 3-2 record and a 2.86 ERA spanning 44 innings.
  • Went six innings, eight hits, three runs, and six strikeouts in a 5-3 win versus Schaumburg on July 8.
