Green Signs Professional Contract in Sweden

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State standout Hannah Green signed her first professional contract with Wetterbygden Basket in the Swedish Damligan for the 2018-19 season, Slan Sports Management announced Friday.

Green was named a First-Team All-MVC selection at the conclusion of her senior season, averaging 12.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. She led the conference in both seasons as a Redbird with blocks per game and left her mark in the Illinois State record books, finishing third all-time in school history in the category. Green finished in the top 10 of the conference for scoring and rebounding at eighth and, ninth respectively, during the 2017-18 season.

In the 2016-17 season, the 6'0 forward made one shot behind the arc and averaged 6.6 points per game, before finishing the 2017-18 season with 39 made 3-pointers and was the second-leading scorer for the 'Birds.

"Without ISU, I would not be signing my first professional contract," Green said. "The lessons I have learned will carry me through my first season in Sweden, for the rest of my basketball career and life in general. I can't thank my teammates and coaches enough for the sacrifices they made and continue to make day in and day out. I'm so grateful for them and they deserve so much credit for me getting to where I am today."

Green is the second student-athlete that has signed a professional contract with Kristen Gillespie serving at the helm of a program. Current Redbird women's basketball assistant Mariyah-Brawner Henley signed a professional contract with Aabyhoj in Denmark following her senior season at Lewis University, where Gillespie was the head coach. Gillespie also helped coach five players who played professionally, including a WNBA First Round draft pick during her time as an assistant at NC State under Coach Yow.

"I am so incredibly proud of Hannah," Coach Gillespie said. "Last spring we sat down and she told me her two goals were to be First-Team All-MVC and to play professionally. She worked extremely hard this past year and turned her goals into reality. I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for her."
