Redbird Soccer Heads to Tulsa to Finish Up Oklahoma Weekend

Illinois State (1-1-1) will play Tulsa (1-1-0) Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This will be the first meeting between the two teams and will finish out the Redbirds' weekend in Oklahoma.

Tulsa – What You Need to Know

Tulsa (1-1-0) earned their first win of the season Thursday night at home in a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist. Redshirt freshman Gabriella Borboa found the back of the net in the 39th minute with redshirt sophomore Alzbeta Chlumova adding her own goal later in the second half around the 65th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Mica MacKay has totaled nine saves through two games and allowed three goals.

The Golden Hurricane's loss this season comes from an overtime heartbreaker with Missouri State, 3-2. Tulsa had a 2-0 lead going into the second half, but were unable to stop the Bears from scoring in the 48th, 79th and 98th minute.

Tulsa finished out the 2017 season 3-12-4 overall, and 1-6-2 in the American Athletic Conference.

Last Time Out

The 'Birds fell to Oklahoma in a 7-1 decision on Sunday night. Senior Kiley Czerwinski scored her first goal of the season in the 86th minute off of a penalty kick. Junior goalkeeper Haley Smith collected four saves in her 45 minutes of play, improving to 174 career saves and moving up to fourth place in all-time saves in Redbird history.
