AMES, Iowa – The Illinois State gymnastics team continued its journey on the road to start the 2019 season, competing away from home for the fourth time in a row Friday night at Iowa State, as the Cyclones defeated the Redbirds 194.150-191.275 at Hilton Coliseum.
Redbird Scoring Breakdown:
• Vault: Iowa State – 48.675, Illinois State – 48.450
• Bars: Iowa State – 48.450, Illinois State – 46.800
• Beam: Iowa State – 48.725, Illinois State – 48.300
• Floor: Iowa State – 48.300, Illinois State – 47.725
Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"We had some great moments at the meet tonight, having Meredith tie in vault, Kylie tie in beam, and Gabi winning the all-around. This was a tight meet, but overall our team is on the upswing. We hit more routines tonight and we plan to build off of that. We look forward to hosting our first meet of the season this coming weekend and I know our team is ready to compete at home."
Team Notes:
• The Redbirds earned a season high on vault, earning a score of 48.450
• Illinois State was able earn close scores to Iowa State in vault and beam, Iowa State ultimately taking the lead in both
Gymnast Notes:
• Junior Gabrielle Cooke won the all-around competition with a score of 38.600, her second all-around win of the season
• Senior Meredith LaRoche came in a three-way tie for first in vault with a 9.825 … LaRoche also had a top-5 finish on bars to cap off a solid night
• Senior Kylie Meyer tied for first in beam with a 9.800
• Savannah Remkus and Meyer also tied for fifth on beam with scores of 9.725

• The Redbirds will host their first home meet of the 2019 season at Horton Field House on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. against the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. Admission is free to all gymnastics meets this season and the meet will also be broadcast live on GoRedbirds.com.
