Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Campaign with Two Matches in Des Moines

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's tennis will begin the dual season early in the week with matches against Drake and Tennessee Tech, Sunday, Jan. 20 and Monday, Jan. 21 in Des Moines, Iowa.

"We are looking forward to this weekend. We've got a lot of new faces and I believe this is one of the most talented teams I've had over the years," head coach Mark Klysner said. "I am very excited to see the guys in action. It's a tough weekend to start the season playing two teams who went to NCAA's last year, but I feel we are ready for the challenge."

Last spring, Illinois State went 12-9 overall, and 2-3 in conference play.

The matchup with Drake is set to begin at 6 p.m. for the Redbirds' first Summit competition this season. Drake is favored to claim the 2019 Summit League championship, after capturing the title last season.

On Monday, the 'Birds will compete with Tennessee Tech at 10 a.m. The Golden Eagles went 6-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 13-7 overall last season.
