ST. LOUIS – After helping the Redbirds to their sixth-straight victory, junior TeTe Maggett swept the Missouri Valley Conference weekly honors, being named the league's Player and Newcomer of the Week Wednesday.
Maggett garners her third weekly honor after guiding the Redbirds to a 62-55 victory over UMKC with 24 points, seven rebounds and two assists on Sunday. The junior guard led all scorers and set a new career high while shooting 46 percent from the floor. She was perfect from the charity stripe (10-for-10) and from beyond the arc (2-for-2). Maggett has scored in double figures in all but two contests this season, averaging 15.1 points per game.
This is the second-straight week and third time in four weeks she has earned Newcomer of the Week, and the first time she has been tabbed as Player of the Week. This is the second time this season a Valley athlete has swept the weekly honors, and is the eighth time in MVC history. Maggett is the second player under the Gillespie era to sweep the weekly honors, and prior to last season, Illinois State had not accomplished this feat since Kristi Cirone in 2005.
The Illinois State women's basketball team will be back in action on Friday when they open MVC play in Redbird Arena as they host the UNI Panthers. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
