NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State gymnastics head coach Bob Conkling has announced the team's schedule for the 2020 season, with two meets being hosted inside Redbird Arena.
The team will also compete in seven road meets, before ending the season at home hosting the Midwest Independent Conference Championship.Â
"We start off with a home meet against New Hampshire and the next weekend, we head to Michigan State for a tri-meet with Central Michigan," said Conkling. "Those first two weekends will tell us a lot about where we stand against some very good teams. The rest of the season continues to have strong competitions, which should get us well prepared for the conference championships."Â
The Redbirds begin their season at home against New Hampshire on Friday, January 4, at 5 p.m. The team will then hit the road for a meet at Michigan State, competing with the Spartans and Central Michigan on Saturday, January 11, at 7 p.m.Â
ISU returns home for two-consecutive meets. The Redbirds will first host Southeast Missouri State inside Redbird Arena on Friday, January 17, at 7 p.m. The following weekend, the team will welcome in Northern Illinois on Friday, January 24, at 7 p.m.Â
Illinois State will then hit the road for four-consecutive meets, starting at SEMO on Friday, January 31, at 6:30 p.m. Next on Saturday, February 8, the team will compete at Air Force with Seattle Pacific at 2 p.m. The Redbirds will then travel to Bowling Green to compete with the Falcons and Temple on Saturday, February 15, at 2 p.m. ISU will wrap up the road trip at the Pink Invite against Southern Connecticut State, Westchester, Temple and George Washington on Friday, February 21, at 6 p.m.Â
The team will then host BYU on Friday, February 28, at 7 p.m., before hitting the road in the final month of the season. The Redbirds will compete in the Illinois Classic hosted at NIU on Friday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. The following weekend, the team will compete at Lindenwood on Friday, March 13, at 6 p.m.
The gymnastics season comes to an end with the MIC Championship meet on Friday, March 20, at home inside Redbird Arena at 6 p.m.
"We are excited to host five home meets this year, including the MIC Conference Championship," said Conkling. "We have another tough schedule that will challenge our team to produce their best in competition."Â
