NASSAU, Bahamas – Illinois State in the mix against a strong field after one round at the White Sands Intercollegiate.
The Redbirds finished the first 18 holes tied for tenth with Wisconsin and Northern Illinois at one stroke under par. Among the competitors are nationally ranked teams including top-ranked Wake Forest, SMU (2), Arkansas (22), host Houston (39), and UAB (46). Florida State leads the field 13-under par. Leading the field overall individually is Wake Forest golfer Parker Gillam who shot a 12-under 60 and leads the field by six strokes after 18 holes.
David Perkins continued his record-setting senior year by leading the squad in the first round of competition. Perkins finished the round four strokes under par and carded five birdies to one bogey. He is tied for sixth individually with multiple individual golfers.
Joel Durnford and Daniel Anfield follow on the Redbird leaderboard after finishing even par in the first 18 holes. Anfield carded a double bogey but evened it out with two birdies and Durnford answered three of his bogeys with three birdies.
Junior Joseph Hodgson finished the first round three strokes over par, while freshman Felix van Dijk finished four-over par. Each golfer carded two birdies.
The Redbirds will continue competition with 18 holes scheduled on each of the next two days.
