SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
NIU picked up their second win of the season on Sunday, coming back from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Colorado State, 80-75, in overtime. Riley Blackwell led the Huskies with a career-high 18 points, adding eight rebounds. Four Northern Illinois players scored in double digits, including Courtney Woods (16), Gabby Nikitinaite (15) and Chelby Koker (10).
ILLINOIS STATE VS. NORTHERN ILLINOIS
The Redbirds lead the all-time series with the Huskies, 15-9, including a 9-1 record when playing at home. The two teams last met in 2016 with NIU claiming a 108-66 win over the 'Birds in DeKalb. Two current Redbirds, Megan Talbot and Frannie Corrigan, saw action in that game and scored nine and six points, respectively.
LAST TIME OUT
Illinois State defeated in-state foe Illinois, 74-58, on Saturday afternoon, marking the first Big Ten victory for the 'Birds since they last beat Illinois in December of 2012. It was also the first Redbird win over a Power Five conference team since ISU knocked off Florida, 68-64, on Nov. 29, 2013. Fifth-year senior Lexi Wallen had a career night, posting career highs in points (26) and rebounds (9) while shooting 10-of-14 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Senior TeTe Maggett also added 21 points and tallied eight assists.
PROMOTIONS
Illinois State Athletics has partnered with the Office of Sustainability to host Recycling Night on Wednesday, helping to celebrate the power and benefits of recycling. The ISU Solar Car team, a student-led organization that designs, builds and races solar vehicles against teams from around the world, will be in attendance with one of their creations on display. Compost bins will be placed around the concourse and the Plastic Bag Monster will be making an appearance as well.
