NASSAU, Bahamas – The Illinois State Redbirds slowly climbed the overall and individual leaderboard after the second round of the White Sands Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Houston at Ocean Club Golf Course.
Illinois State is in ninth place after two rounds as the squad went three-under par in the round improving their overall score to four strokes under par. The second-round score moved the team up one spot on the leaderboard from yesterday. Host Houston leads the field 19 strokes under par after knocking Florida State out of the top spot.
Junior Dan Anfield led the Redbirds in the second round by shooting three-under par. Anfield climbed 24 places on the individual leaderboard, tying him with fellow Redbird David Perkins for 17th. Perkins carded one-over par for the round, only the second time in 14 rounds he has shot over par during the fall season.
Joel Durnford also improved in the second round, climbing ten spots in the individual field, shooting one-under par for the round and improving his overall score to one stroke under par. He carded four birdies to match one bogey and a double bogey.
Freshan Felix van Dijk started the round by carding an eagle, which is the sixth eagle a Redbird has carded so far this season. van Dijk shot even for the round and is four strokes over par after two rounds. Junior Joe Hodgson finished nine strokes over for the round and is 12-over par after 36 holes.
The team closes out the tournament and the fall season tomorrow with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. CT in the third and final round of the tournament.
