ST. LOUIS, Mo. – In spite of the third round of the tournament being cancelled due to rain, junior David Perkins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for his performance at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
Perkins' final score of two-under-par (142) in two rounds finished him in a seven-way tie for 17th place. He helped the Redbirds climb up the leaderboard five places in the first day, ending in a four-way tie for seventh place with Louisiana, Richmond, and Oral Roberts. The Redbirds went up against nationally ranked teams such as Florida State and Louisville, who finished in first and second place.
Perkins has started both the fall and spring seasons for the 2018-19 school year with the MVC Player of the Week honor. In the fall season, he received the honor alongside teammates Trent Wallace and Joel Durnford. The honor is Perkins' sixth of his Redbird career, which is second-most among Redbird golfers behind Wallace.
The team will return to action on Feb. 23 in Tallahassee, Florida, for the Seminole Intercollegiate.
