NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's and women's track and field teams, who were selected as the MVC indoor favorites in the Valley's Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll, will wrap-up the regular season Friday at the Badger Red & White Classic, hosted by Wisconsin.
MEET INFORMATION
The Badger Red & White Classic will take place Friday, Feb. 15 at the Camp Randall Sports Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The meet is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. with the women's high jump competition. Track events will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdle prelims.
Admission for spectators is free of charge. For fans who cannot be in attendance, live results will be provided by Prime Time Timing (click here). Real-time results will also be posted on the @Redbird_TrackXC Twitter page, as well as on GoRedbirds.com following the conclusion of the meet.
A TARGET ON THEIR BACKS
After following up their 2018 MVC Indoor Championship sweep with another impressive indoor season in 2019, it comes as no surprise that the Redbird men's and women's track and field teams were both selected as the MVC favorites, the league announced Thursday morning with their annual Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll.
The Illinois State men, who return nine indoor All-Conference performers from 2018, received six first-place votes and 77 total points. Northern Iowa, the 2018 MVC Outdoor Champions, collected the three remaining first-place votes, placing second with 71 points. Indiana State (64 points), Southern Illinois (56 points), and Bradley (44 points) rounded out the top-five.
The Redbird women, who were crowned the 2018 Valley Indoor and Outdoor Champions, return 12 All-Conference honorees from last year's indoor meet. The squad received nine of ten-possible first place votes, tallying 99 points. Indiana State, the 2018 MVC Indoor and Outdoor Runner-Up, earned the final first-place, finishing second with 91 points. Southern Illinois (78), Northern Iowa (68), and Missouri State (64) completed the top-five.
