No. 6 Denver Too Much For Redbird Gymnasts

DENVER, Colo. –The Illinois State gymnastics team fell to No. 6 Denver, 197.625-193.275, in front of a sold-out crowd at Hamilton Gymnasium in Denver on Saturday night.

Redbird Scoring Breakdown:

• Vault: Denver – 49.325, Illinois State – 48.125
• Bars: Denver –49.400, Illinois State – 48.600
• Beam:Denver– 49.475, Illinois State – 47.875
• Floor: Denver –49.425, Illinois State – 48.675

Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"We started out strong on uneven bars, vault and floor we did okay. We are a much better beam team than what we performed tonight. Overall, it was a solid meet considering what we were up against and we know what we need to work on to prepare for next weekend." 

Team Notes:

• The Redbirds started the meet on uneven bars and were able to improve their score from the previous week by 0.075
• Illinois State's highest score of the night was on floor with a 48.675 

Gymnast Notes:

• Gabrielle Cooke tied for fifth on floor with a score of 9.825
• Cooke also placed fifth in the all-around with a score of 37.975

• The Redbirds will continue their journey on the road to compete at Ball State on Sunday, Feb.  24, at 1 p.m. against the Cardinals.
