ST LOUIS, Mo. – Illinois State junior center fielder John Rave has been named Missouri Valley Conference Hitter of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
The preseason All-MVC outfielder had a great start to the 2019 campaign, helping Illinois State sweep the Belmont Bruins in Nashville. Rave slashed .615/.762/.692 on the weekend, as he went 8-for-13 at the plate with a double, six RBIs, and five runs scored. He also walked eight times while stealing two bases.
Friday night, Rave went 3-for-7 with four RBIs and three runs aiding the 'Birds in a wild 27-11 extra-inning game. Rave doubled on Saturday, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored, as the 'Birds defeated the Bruins 14-3. He finished the weekend going 2-for-2 in the weekend finale, drawing four walks and scoring a run in a 10-6 win on Sunday.
The Redbirds return to action this weekend when they travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on Central Arkansas in a four-game series starting Friday, February 22 at 3 p.m. with a double-header scheduled on Saturday. Illinois State will wrap up its series on Sunday against the Bears.
