History at the Event: This is Illinois State's sixth appearance at the Seminole Intercollegiate. Last season, the Redbirds finished in sixth place out of 14 schools.Â
About the Course: After opening in 1986, this course was rated "the most challenging course in Florida" by the United States Golf Association. The wide fairways and strategically placed bunkers make a course that is challenging for serious golfers, yet playable for casual ones.
Quote from Coach Ray Kralis: The field this week is both strong at the top & deep toward the bottom, so you can't afford to give anything away. We'll need to do a good job managing our minds, expectations and emotions from the start to finish so we can maintain and even increase our confidence levels throughout each and every round.
Last Time Out: Illinois State's last outing was in Mobile, Alabama, where the Redbirds played two rounds of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. Due to the third round getting rained out, the squad finished tied for seventh out of 15 teams. The standout for the Redbirds was David Perkins, who finished the tournament with a two-under-par 142 (71-71) and earned the MVC Golfer of the Week honor.
Next Time Out: The Redbirds will return to the course March 11 and 12 at the USF Invitational in Tampa, Florida.
