Normal, Ill.-The Illinois State gymnastics team will travel to Muncie, Indiana, to take on Ball State and Southeast Missouri State in a tri-meet on Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. inside Worthen Arena.
Thoughts from Coach Conkling:
"Until the last few weeks, Ball State and our team were close to scoring the same in competition, with Ball State having a slight edge. Ball State has been getting some strong results in the past few weeks. Our team will have to be focused and put up strong performances in each of the four events to come out with a win over Ball State. I believe it will be a close competition and will come down to which team hits on all four events."
Against Ball State:
The Redbirds competed against the Cardinals in a tri-meet along with Eastern Michigan (Jan. 24, 2016), with EMU taking first (195.050), Ball State second (192.700), and ISU taking third (191.900) … Two days prior (Jan. 22, 2016) ISU placed third in a tri-meet with Lindenwood (192.150) and Ball State (192.050) … The Redbirds could not overcome Ball State and fell by a score of 194.475-193.975 (Mar. 2, 2015).
Against SEMO:
Illinois State defeated the Redhawks this season (Jan. 25, 2019) with a season high score 194.175-184.425… Kylie Meyer earned a season high and placed first on uneven bars with a score of 9.850… Gabrielle Cooke earned a season high and placed first on floor with a score of 9.900… Mia Quigg earned a season high on floor with a score of 9.850… Sofia Iribarren scored a season high and placed second on uneven bars with a score of 9.800.
Redbird News and Notes:
This past weekend the Redbirds competed against No. 6 Denver and were defeated 197.625-193.275... They placed their highest team score on floor with a 48.675... Gabrielle Cooke tied for fifth on floor exercise with a score of 9.825 and placed fifth in the all-around with a score of 37.975.
About The Cardinals:
Ball State was defeated by NIU this past weekend 195.700-194.700… Ball State won vault (49.075) and uneven bars (49.125)… The Cardinals held four of the top finishes on vault… Jordyn Penny placed first on beam with a score of 9.800.
About The Redhawks:
SEMO was defeated by MIC foe UIC this past Sunday 195.100-185.550… Anna Kaziska placed second on both beam (9.800) and floor 99.850) and finished third in the all-around with a 38.250… Mackenzie Slee placed fourth in the all-around (37.300), followed by Alana Fischer in fifth (37.275), and Michael Sanders in sixth (35.450).
