Redbirds Earn a Season High Score in Tri-Meet at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Illinois State gymnastics team placed second with a season-high score of 194.250 in a tri-meet against Ball State (194.575) and Southeast Missouri State (186.900) Sunday afternoon in Muncie, Indiana.

Redbird Scoring Breakdown:

·       Vault: Ball State-48.950 , Illinois State – 48.675, SEMO – 48.000

·       Bars: Ball State- 48.550, Illinois State – 48.375, SEMO– 45.325

·       Beam: Illinois State – 48.400, Ball State- 48.225, SEMO – 46.850

·       Floor: Ball State - 48.850, Illinois State – 48.800, SEMO – 46.725

Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"I'm happy with how the team fought for every routine throughout the entire meet. The score was close between Ball State and us going into the last event. Our team did some of the best vaults that they could have with the strongest landings this season, but it just wasn't quite enough to overtake the Cardinals."

Team Notes:

·       The Redbirds began on the uneven bars, and were in second place behind Ball State after the first rotation

·       On floor exercise, as ISU held three of the top five finishers

·       The team received their highest score during the third rotation on floor, earning a 48.800

·       Illinois State had one of their strongest performances on vault of the season, scoring a 48.675

Gymnast Notes:

·       Gabrielle Cooke won the all-around with a score of 38.950, thanks to a second place finish on floor with a score of 9.850 and a second place effort on vault with a score of 9.825

·       Anna Marema took first place on uneven bars, earning a score of 9.825

·       Sofia Iribarren placed second on the uneven bars, with a score of 9.800

·       Kylie Meyer won the beam with a score of 9.825 and competed in the all-around and placed third with a score of 38.875

·       Meredith LaRoche stuck the vault and won the event with a score of 9.875

·       Cameron Topp placed fourth on floor with a score of 9.800

·       Mia Quigg tied for fifth place on floor with a score of 9.775

Up Next:

The Redbirds will travel to DeKalb on Friday, March 1,  at 6 p.m. to compete against the Northern Illinois Huskies.
