Men's Golf Ties for 11th at Seminole Intercollegiate

The Redbirds tie with Troy for 11th place at the 2019 Seminole Intercollegiate. The squad ended the tournament at 888 (291-296-301).

Illinois State battled against high ranking teams across the field. Wake Forest, who claimed first this weekend, is ranked 5th on Golfstat. Florida State, West Virginia and Louisville, who are also in the top 50 according to Golfstat, finished top five in the tournament.

Senior Trent Wallace led the squad all weekend. Wallace shot one-under par with a 215 (72-69-74) and ended in a six-way tie for 16th individually. His best round came in the second half of the first day when he shot three strokes under par.

"We took it on the chin this weekend and let a great opportunity pass us by," coach Ray Kralis said. "This should be painful for all of us, and we need to use it as a motivator. We'll learn a lot about ourselves as we determine just how we are going to deal with it. We've made too many strides this season, and while we haven't gotten back to the level we played in the fall, I know we have some time and am confident we'll get back there and be even better."

David Rauer and David Perkins ended the tournament six-over par. Andrew O'Brien finished with a 229 (77-77-75) and sunk seven birdies in the last 18 holes. Joel Durnford ended with a 234 (78-79-77) for the weekend.

The Redbirds were tied for 10th with Princeton after the first 36-holes and fell one place after the final 18. Illinois State was able to sink 44 birdies in over the course of the tournament, which was tied for seventh for all teams in the tournament.

The squad's next appearance will be in Tampa, Fla. at the USF Invitational March 11-12.
