NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State Women's Tennis team will face Akron at home on Thursday, Feb. 28 with the first serve scheduled for 12 p.m.
The Redbirds are coming off of a second place finish at the Redbird Invitational, after dropping to Toledo in a hard-fought 4-1 battle. Freshman Tara Damnjanovic went 1-0 in the No. 2 spot in singles, and Sophomore Laura Fitzgerald went 1-0 as well in the No. 5 spot. Both teammates posted 1-1 records in their respective doubles matches.
Akron is 10-3 on its season and is coming into Normal on a two-game win streak. Key players for the Zips includes sophomores Miruna Vasilescu and Anna Uljanov. Vasilescu took home the MAC Newcomer of the Year award and currently sits 9-3 overall. Uljanov was also awarded a postseason honor last season, earning Second Team All-conference and owns an 8-4 record this season.
As always, admission to ISU tennis matches at the Bloomington Tennis Center is free.
