NORMAL, Ill. –The Illinois State gymnastics team will travel to Dekalb, Ill. to take on Northern Illinois on Mar. 1 at 6 p.m. inside NIU Convocation Center.
Thoughts from Coach Conkling:
"We are excited to finally have a day trip up to Northern Illinois for what should be a great competition. NIU has had a very strong season so far this year and we have defiantly been putting together better competitions the last few weeks. We have been focusing this week on increasing our scoring potential by working on all those small details that lead to a higher score. I feel confident that the team is ready to put together their strongest performances of the season on each of the four events which will make for a great competition to watch."
Against Northern Illinois:
The Redbirds competed against the Huskies the Illinois Classic with Illinois-Champaign and UIC (Mar. 11, 2018), Illinois-Champaign taking first (195.025), UIC in second (194.725), Northern taking third (194.400), and Illinois State taking fourth (188.550) … The year prior (Mar. 5, 2017) the teams competed in the Illinois Class, Illinois-Champaign with first (196.150), Northern and Illinois State tying for second (193.550), and UIC taking third (193.525).
Redbird News and Notes:
This past weekend the Redbirds competed in a tri-meet with Ball State taking first (194.575), Illinois State taking second with a season high team score (194.250) and Southeast Missouri State taking third (186.900)… Meredith LaRoche earned the MIC Performance of the Week with her big win on vault (9.875)… Gabrielle Cooke won the all-around (38.950), placed second on floor (9.850), and second on vault (9.825)… Anna Marema took first on the uneven bars (9.825)… Kylie Meyer won beam (9.825) and placed third in the all-around (38.875)
About The Huskies:
Northern was defeated by UIC this past weekend 195.500-193.975… The Huskies were able to post scores of 48 or higher on all four events…NIU trailed UIC on three of four events, with the two teams tying on floor exercise with a 48.825… Junior Allison Richardson scored a 9.8250 to win the floor exercise…
