NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team has a quick turnaround, as they hit the road for the third week in a row, this time traveling to Murray, Kentucky to face Murray State. The 'Birds will face off against the Racers in a three-game series at Johnny Reagan Field. First pitch for Friday's game is set for 3 p.m. The rest of the weekend was adjusted slightly, as the Redbirds and Racers will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. to avoid potential weather issues.
Illinois State Redbirds (5-2)
Illinois State split its four-game series with Central Arkansas last weekend. Despite the draw, the Redbirds outscored the Bears 19-13. Illinois State ranks ninth nationally in runs per game, averaging 10 per contest through the first two weeks of play, and is outscoring its opponents 70-33 on the year. Over the course of the young season, the 'Birds have scored 15 runs in the first inning compared to their opponent's just one run in the first frame.
Murray State Racers (2-6)
Murray State is coming off a midweek matchup at Western Kentucky where the Racers lost 9-5. Last weekend, Murray State dropped two of three games to Miami (Ohio). Murray State is ranked in the top-30 nationally in homeruns and stolen bases with 9 and 15, respectively.
Series History
Illinois State leads Murray State in the all-time series, holding a 5-2 advantage. The two teams last played in 2009 in a doubleheader, where the teams split, with Illinois State winning 5-3 in game one and Murray State winning 1-0.
