Hoops in the Heartland Tournament Preview: ‘Birds Take on the Braves

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team will compete against the Bradley Braves for their first game of the Hoops in the Heartland Tournament at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Illinois.

THE SERIES VS. BRADLEY

• The Redbirds are 48-27 overall when facing the Braves, 25-11 at home, 20-16 at Bradley and 3-0 at a neutral site.

• The last time the two met in the conference tournament was March 15, 2013, and the Redbirds were victorious, as they defeated the six-seeded Braves 59-48.

• Illinois State has never lost to Bradley at a neutral site in program history.

REDBIRD BITS

• The Redbirds have won eight of their last 10 games and clinched the four-seed after defeating UNI.

• Simone Goods and TeTe Maggett were selected to the MVC First Team All-Conference list after finishing the regular season as two of the top five scorers in the league.

• The Redbirds finished the regular season on a high note, as they snuck away with a 54-53 win over UNI. This is the first time the squad has swept the Panthers in six years.

SCOUTING THE BRAVES

• Bradley's fifth-place conference finish was the program's best since 2009-2010.

• The team has averaged 6.2 triples per game, which would rank as the third-best in school history. Gabi Haack leads the MVC in 3-pointers per game with 2.4 and leads her team with 15.2 points per game. Haack earned First Team All-Conference honors alongside her teammate Chelsea Brackmann.

• Freshman Lasha Petree was selected to the MVC All-Freshman team after a stellar first year campaign, scoring 378 points, which marks her second all-time in Braves history for a freshman.
