MOLINE, Ill. –Illinois State University junior TeTe Maggett has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year, in a poll of coaches, media members and sports information directors.
Maggett is the fourth player in program history to receive this honor, joining fellow teammate Simone Goods (2018), Jamie Russel (2012) and Janae Smith (2013).
"I am so proud of TeTe for being named Newcomer of the Year," Coach Gillespie said. "This was our vision for her during the recruiting process. Her desire to become great is what sets her apart, and I think she is only starting to scratch the surface of the player she will become."
Maggett, a junior from North Chicago, Illinois, has been a consistent contributor to the Redbird offense, averaging 15.8 points per game, while dishing out a team-high of 72 assists. The junior guard leads the squad in 3-point shooting, netting 53-of-157 (.338) and has earned Newcomer of the Week four times this season, sweeping the weekly honors once.
Maggett has scored 20 or more points in 10 games this season, setting a new personal best of 29 points, as she led ISU to victory over UNI for the first time in five years. She notched her first career double-double and set a new career high, grabbing 12 rebounds against Loyola Chicago. Maggett leads the squad at the line, averaging 80.3 percent from the charity stripe this season, which ranks top 10 in the Valley.
