Redbirds Head East To Face In-State Foe Illinois

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team will head east on Interstate 74 this weekend to take on in-state foe Illinois. The Redbirds will battle the Illini in a three game series at Illinois Field. First pitch for Friday is set for 4 p.m. Saturday's game will take place at 1 p.m. with the series finale on Sunday, also scheduled for 1 p.m.

Illinois State Redbirds (13-6)

Illinois State comes into the matchup after a midweek 4-0 victory over UIC. The shutout was Illinois State's second of the season. The Redbirds are hitting .312 as a team on the season which is good for 10th nationally.

Illinois Fighting Illini (14-4)

The University of Illinois comes into the weekend matchup after splitting a two-game series at St. Louis. The Illini defeated the Billikens 4-1 on Tuesday, but fell on Wednesday by a final score of 8-3. Illinois is ranked 13th nationally in fielding (.980) and 19th in winning percentage (.778).

Illinois State trails Illinois in the all-time series, as the Illini hold a 52-32 record over the Redbirds. The two teams last played in 2018, with Illinois defeating Illinois State 4-2.
