Redbird Gymnasts Head to MIC Championships

NORMAL, Ill. – All of the hard work and preparation throughout the season for the Illinois State gymnastics team has led to this weekend, as the Redbirds will travel to Shreveport, Louisiana, to compete for a conference title at the Midwest Independent Conference Championships hosted by Centenary College on Friday, March 23. The first rotation will begin at 6 p.m. inside the Gold Dome.

Thoughts from Coach Conkling:

"This weekend is going to be a battle. The teams in the MIC have been doing well all year. Lindenwood and UIC have had successful seasons and I'm confident they will be strong competitors. We're hoping to see some solid individual routines on vault and beam, as well as increasing our score on bars. Last weekend was not our best competition, but we did really well at the Illinois Classic and I know we are capable of performing that well again."

The Redbirds came away with a fifth-place finish and a score of 192.0750 at the 2018 Championship (Mar. 23) … Gabrielle Cooke was named 2018 MIC Gymnast of the Year and finished second in the all-around competition with a score of 38.800 ... Alyssa Wiggle, Savannah Remkus, and Kylie Meyer each posted scores of 9.700 to tie for 14th overall on beam.
