ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Joel Durnford has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after his performance at the Tiger Invitational. This is Durnford's second honor in his first year as a Redbird.
Durnford placed in eighth place out of 78 individual golfers after shooting eight under-par (208). He helped the Redbirds place fourth in a strong field that included of Missouri, Kansas State, and 35th ranked TCU.
In the first 36 holes of the tournament, Durnford shot four strokes under par in the first round (68) and three under in the second round (69) before topping off the tournament one under par (71). Durnford placed the highest of the MVC student-athletes at the tournament, which included players from Missouri State and Southern Illinois, and Drake.
This is the fourth honor the Redbirds have received in the spring season, seventh from both the fall and spring. Durnford joins David Perkins, who has earned two Golfer of the Week honor, and Trent Wallace, who has earned three.
The squad will be back in action April 13-14 when they play at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
