NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State will play two-mid week match-ups this week, facing the UIC Flames on Tuesday, April 16 and will return to Duffy Bass Field on Wednesday, to play host to Sacramento State.
Illinois State Redbirds (21-14, 5-1 MVC)
Illinois State has won four games in a row, and eight of their last nine games. The Redbirds are ranked 29th nationally in hits this season with 368, and are also tabbed 36th nationally in both doubles and doubles per game with 72 and 2.06, respectively.
UIC Flames (16-13, 10-4 Horizon)
UIC enters the mid-week contest on a five-game winning streak, after collecting wins over Youngstown State, Northern Illinois, and a weekend sweep over Northern Kentucky. UIC is hitting .278 as a team which positions them 84th nationally. Freshman catcher, Ryan Hampe ranks third in the country in the same category with a .453 batting average. Senior outfielder, Scott Ota is ranked inside the top-100 in nine different offensive categories. The Flames are set to face the Redbirds on Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. in Chicago.
Sacramento State Hornets (23-12, 9-3 WAC)
Sacramento State comes to Normal on a two-game winning streak, having won their series last weekend at Seattle University. Sacramento State is ranked second nationally in walks allowed per nine innings at 2.51. The Hornets are also ranked third nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 3.71. First pitch at Duffy Bass Field is slated for 5 p.m.
Series History
Illinois State leads UIC in the all-time series holding a 28-11 margin. The 'Birds defeated the Flames earlier this season by a score of 4-0 on March 19. This will be the first ever meeting between Illinois State and Sacramento State.
